New ways to help obese people reduce weight have emerged, among which are snacking on almonds and taking an injectable drug for treating Type 2 diabetes.
New research from the University of South Australia shows that people who ate almonds had improved levels of appetite-regulating hormones compared to those consuming a carbohydrate-rich snack bar, Medical News Today reported. The findings recently published in the European Journal of Nutrition suggest that the protein-rich nuts can curb hunger, thereby controlling or managing weight.
However, snacking on almonds still needs a strong self-control, as the same study also suggests. Those who snacked on almonds and later ate a buffet for 30 minutes as part of the research recorded as much calorie intake as those who did not have an almond snack before indulging on the buffet.
Meanwhile, the United States Food and Drug Administration had approved the Mounjaro as weight-loss drugs.
Dr. Amanda Velazquez, director of obesity medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said Monjouro drugs like Saxenda and Wegovy help make the stomach feel fuller and regulate blood sugar, CBS News reported.
Unfortunately, because of the high demand for the said drugs for weight loss, there is now a shortage of supply, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Filipino Joemar Santos Torres shed 26 kilograms of weight in a "funny" way.
Torres recently posted a before-and-after photo of him on his Facebook page to show his transformation from a bulky guy to a slim man. The photos of Torres' company ID showing his meaty face in July 2021 and his thin version while holding his National ID that he finally received on 14 November, went viral.
The viral meme has the caption, "Pumayat na 'ko kahihintay" (I grew thin from waiting), referring to the long delayed delivery of his National ID, the Philippine Star reported.
He applied for the ID on 1 July 2021. But Torres also admitted going on a rice-less diet for three months, jogging, and playing volleyball and badminton to reduce weight.
