Some high-earning professionals' worth can be ridiculously low.
When an American violin virtuoso disguised as a busker played classical music with his 1713 Stradivarius worth $4 million at a Washington, DC subway, the reception was surprising.
During his 43-minute performance at the entrance of the L'Enfant Plaza Metro in the morning rush of 12 January 2007, Bell played Bach, Massenet, Schubert, and Ponce. A total 1,097 pedestrians passed by him with 27 giving money and only seven stopping to listen, according to Classicfm.com. The total donation in that social experiment was $52.17, including $20 from someone who knew him, the website reported.
Of course, the "worldwide star soloist and former child prodigy" gets paid so much more than that amount. He earned $1,140 a day and had a net worth of $15 million in 2021, according to NCERT Point Team.
Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo of the Manchester United is regarded as the highest-paid athlete in the English league. His two-year contract with the club is worth $63 million, which translates to a weekly salary of $593,000, Boardroom reported.
Ronaldo recently aired his dissatisfaction with the club in a media interview irking its owner and manager who decided to terminate his service to Man United last week, seven months before his contract expires. That presented an opportunity for other clubs to snatch the prized player. The AFC Crewe of the 14th tier Crewe and District League Premier Division made the first offer to the now 37-year-old free agent.
"We can confirm that the club has made an official approach to sign free agent Cristiano Ronaldo on a one-year deal. Should Cristiano accept the offer, he would become AFC Crewe's highest paid player, taking home £35 per week," the Mirror reported.
Ronaldo, who is playing for Portugal in the ongoing World Cup in Qatar, had no reaction to the offer that was very tempting to reject.
Nevertheless, Ronaldo is not expected to be jobless and penniless after the World Cup, as Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr made another offer for him to transfer to the Middle East league. Al Nassr had just offered to pay him a staggering £173 million (P12 billion) per year, according to Mirror.
