Globe tops Opensignal 5G video experience, upload speed, core consistent quality

Top digital solutions platform Globe topped the latest report of Opensignal in terms of 5G Video Experience, 5G Upload Speed, and Core Consistent Quality as it continues to boost its customers' mobile experience.

Based on Opensignal's Mobile Network Experience Report for October 2022, "Globe users have continued to enjoy the best available experience when streaming mobile video over 5G connections." Globe scored 73.5 in 5G Video Experience, edging out the nearest competitor's 68.4.

The company was either an outright or joint winner in all seven regions for the said category. It was the only telco in the number one position in Calabarzon, Davao, Metropolitan Manila, and Western Visayas.

Globe also achieved 5G upload speed supremacy nationwide with a score of 12.8 Mbps, an increase of 1.8 Mbps, booting out the competition with a 1.4 Mbps lead.

It led outright in 5G upload speed in five of the seven regions where 5G experience was analyzed while sharing the win with competition in Western Visayas.

Globe also bagged the Core Consistent Quality award with a score of 76.9%, beating competitor scores of 76.4% and 75.6%.

Consistent quality measures how often users' experience on a network was sufficient to support standard application requirements. It measures download speed, upload speed, latency, jitter, packet loss, time to the first byte, and the percentage of tests attempted that did not succeed due to a connectivity issue on either the download or server response component.

Meanwhile, Opensignal also declared Globe a joint winner along with competitors in 5G voice app experience and 5G games experience. Globe was the sole winner in Calabarzon and Metropolitan Manila in both categories.

"Globe users saw the greatest improvement in their overall experience when playing multiplayer mobile games over cellular connections since our last report," Opensignal said.

5G technology can deliver internet speeds up to 100 times faster than 4G. It also has less lag, making it suitable for video streaming and gaming.

Opensignal measures how mobile users experience real-time multiplayer mobile gaming on an operator's 5G network. On a scale of zero to 100, it analyzes how the multiplayer mobile games experience is affected by mobile network conditions, including latency, packet loss, and jitter, to determine the impact on gameplay and the overall game experience.

"5G connectivity is growing in importance as the needs of the people change. We continuously expand and upgrade our infrastructure to accommodate new technologies like 5G for our customers to reap the benefits of a #1stWorldNetwork," said Darius Delgado, Head of Globe Consumer Mobile Business.

Globe's network expansion and service improvements align with its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which foster innovation and infrastructure as drivers of inclusive growth.

Globe has been accelerating its 5G rollout beginning last year. It has built over 900 5G sites in the first semester of 2022 on top of more than 2,000 sites and in-building solutions installed in 2021.
