The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that a magnitude 5 earthquake has been recorded off the shores of Surigao del Sur on Sunday afternoon.
Phivolcs said that the epicenter was located 35 kilometers northeast of Cortes, Surigao del Sur, and was tectonic in origin with an 11-kilometer depth.
Intensity II has been reported in the City of Tandag, while Intensity I has been recorded in Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte.
While damages are not seen following the magnitude 5 earthquake, Phivolcs said that aftershocks could still be expected.
A much smaller, magnitude 2 tectonic earthquake was also logged an hour later, recorded at 10 kilometers northeast of Cortes, much closer to the coast.
