Manila eyes swift resolution on ‘stockpiled’ evidence

The local government of Manila is keen on cleaning up some small police stations in the city were pieces of evidence are being stockpiled while waiting to be used in trials as it is Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna stressed that she will meet with the city's judges to discuss how to immediately dispose file of materials that served as evidence.

The "stockpiling" problem was raised by barangay chairman Danilo Marcos of Barangay 587 at District 5 during the weekly "Ugnayan sa Maynila" forum as he complained the stock of various materials used as evidence.

However, P/Brig. Gen. Andrei Dizon said that the material piling up — particularly at the MPD-PS 8 — could not be disposed as it will be used in some of the cases filed by police and only judges could order the disposition of it.

Lacuna, meantime, stressed that it is also a problem that is also encountered by the MPD-SMaRT or Special Mayors Reaction Team, saying that a variety of materials as evidences were stocked in city hall corridors.
