Maltreated boy dies; uncles arrested

Two men were arrested over the weekend to answer for the death of an eight-year-old boy from alleged maltreatment, the Quezon City Police District said Sunday.

The boy's two sisters, aged 10 and seven, were also brought to a hospital for treatment of the injuries they allegedly sustained from the suspects.

Arrested were Hassan Capuchino, 30 years old; and Rodney Lucas, also 30, a transgender hairdresser.

Both suspects were natives of Roxas, Naguilian, Isabela and residents of Barangay Pasong Tamo. They were said to be uncles of the victims.

A complaint for murder under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code will be filed against the two men, along with charges of direct assault and child abuse.

The boy died at the V. Luna Medical Center from the trauma he sustained allegedly from the suspects, who claimed the boy's injuries were self-inflicted.

The QCPD Women and Children's Protection Desk, however, did not buy the suspects' story and conducted an in-depth investigation. It was learned that the two men had a habit of beating up the kids under their care.

The two men were arrested as they were preparing to leave their house. Capuchino tried to stab a police officer during the arrest, the complaint against them said.
