The Department of Transportation on Monday assured the public it has made arrangements with the Light Rail Manila Corporation to have the Light Railway Transit or LRT-1 Cavite Extension running by September 2024.

At the sidelines of the inspections of the rail line's Dr. Santos and Ninoy Aquino Stations on Monday, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said structures that would complete the project are
"fast-taking shape."

"So far, we are on track. This is the reason why we are here — to make arrangements with the LRMC and their contractors so that this line will be operational as scheduled," Secretary Bautista said.

"We are expecting this line will be operational by September of 2024. I'm impressed with the status of the project," he added.

Construction for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Stations is still ongoing.

Currently, Dr. Santos, Ninoy Aquino, and Redemptorist Stations in Parañaque City have progress rates of 48.03 percent, 34.06 percent, and 30.17 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, Asia World and MIA Stations in Pasay City have 37.12 percent and 35.47 percent progress rates, respectively.

The 11.7-kilometer, eight-station

LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will connect Baclaran in Parañaque City to Bacoor, Cavite. The project is a joint venture of the DoTr, the Light Rail Transit Authority and LRMC.

Once fully operational, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project is expected to cut travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor, Cavite to just 25 minutes, from the present 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Likewise, it will also increase the rail line's capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.

LRTA also recently disclosed a plan to build a P10-billion West Extension Project that would add three new stations — Tutuban Divisoria, and Pier 4 — to the train line. The extension project will also add five new trains with four-car configurations.

Last week, LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera disclosed that LRMC, which operates the LRT-1, is seeking a flat P16 boarding fee plus P1.5 per kilometer ride.
