Barcelona has helped shape Phyllis Zaballero as a Filipino visual artist.

Zaballero, one of the outstanding exponents of contemporary Philippine painting, cemented her career as an artist by learning in prestigious institutions in Boston, USA, Geneva, Switzerland), Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain.

The years she spent in Barcelona, from 1957 to 1960, had a strong impact on her later works as a painter.

Instituto Cervantes presents Fondly Remembering Spain, an exhibition of Zaballero's paintings at its Intramural branch from 10 November to 22 January 2023.

The exhibition, which consists of paintings including those from Zaballero's private collections, was inspired by the years she spent in Barcelona and memories of her trips around the Iberian Peninsula from 1957 to 1960.

Cultural Center of the Philippines included Zaballero in its list of Thirteen Artists Awardees in 1978.

Fondly Remembering Spain is organized by Instituto Cervantes with the Embassy of Spain.
