Sogo Cares donates P1M to ‘Brigada Eskwela’ drive

‘We believe that children should have access to basic needs like pencils, paper, ball pens, crayons, and other learning materials that would significantly increase their interest in their studies.’

Sogo Cares' "Balik-Eskwela" program this year has supported over 60 beneficiaries, comprising schools, barangays and NGOs.

The "Balik-Eskwela" program of Sogo Cares is one of Hotel Sogo's corporate social responsibility programs designed to encourage and give hope to students through donations of school supplies, learning materials, and other education supplies to different communities, barangays, and schools nationwide.

The Department of Education officially kicked off the nationwide "Brigada Eskwela" 2022 with the theme "Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-Aral" to promote collaboration and resiliency in basic education, and specifically to ensure the readiness of schools for the opening of the school year. Sogo Cares donated about P1 million to "Brigada Eskwela" initiatives.

"It is truly inspiring to see volunteers and parents take part in preparing students and schools to get back to face-to-face classes this school year," said Sue Geminiano, Hotel Sogo Marketing Manager. "You can clearly see the community working together, and the spirit of bayanihan is alive like never before."

"We at Sogo Cares help NGOs, schools, and communities in need of assistance," Geminiano added. "We believe that children should have access to basic needs like pencils, paper, ball pens, crayons, and other learning materials that would significantly increase their interest in their studies."

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Sogo Cares also donated thousands of assorted school supplies, vitamins, cleaning materials, gardening tools, and hygiene kits, aiding over 20,000 students nationwide.
