BAGAC, Bataan — The Department of Public Works and Highways is set to construct a P55 million alternate road here, as the agency's Second engineering district started the construction of the 1.2-kilometer road leading to the Philippine Sports Training Center complex.

Initiated by Governor Joet S Garcia and Congressman Abet S Garcia, the new road is expected to provide motorists with an alternative route to the state-of-the-art sports hub.

According to DPWH Bataan 2nd District Engineer Ulysses Llado, the project will connect PSTC to Gov. JJ Linao Road in Balanga City via World Bank Road.

It involves construction of a two-lane road with 280-mm thick pavement and sidewalks with curb and gutter.

"Road safety features such as a 1.5-meter-wide standard bike lane and sidewalks will also be provided," Llado said.

As of 15 October, the project is 60 percent complete.

The PSTC will feature numerous facilities for administrative, sports science, medical, and dormitories for athletes and coaches; with sports amenities for 39 Olympic and non-Olympic sports.
