The Department of the Interior and Local Government and National Task Force-Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict are set to recognize local government units for their efforts in eliminating the New People's Army in their territories.
DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. said they will gather around 600 LGUs from insurgency-cleared areas to share their best practices in the implementation of the Support to Barangay Development Program during the SBDP Summit 2022 slated on 7 to 8 November 2022 in Clark, Pampanga.
Abalos said the SBDP Summit aims to provide an avenue for the local chief executives to narrate their success stories and experiences on the implementation of SBDP and Retooled Community Support Program as well as to apprise them on the short to medium term direction of the peace programs.
"The summit is a great way for insurgency-cleared LGUs in different parts of the country to meet, discuss, and share experiences in their respective SBDP and RCSP projects to further improve the next steps towards a more peaceful and progressive nation," Abalos said.
Among the expected participants at the SBDP Summit 2022 are the provincial governors and city/municipal mayors of the implementing LGUs of the FY 2021-2023 Local Government Support Fund-SBDP; DILG Central, Regional, and Field Officers; NTF-ELCAC officials; and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Aside from the DILG secretary, expected to attend the program is National Security Adviser and NTF-ELCAC vice chairman Clarita R. Carlos, who will deliver a statement supporting the National Peace Framework.
