Visayas clashes kill four insurgents

CAMP LAPU-LAPU, Cebu City — The Visayas Command reported that state troops killed at least four individuals believed to be members of the New People's Army in a series of clashes in the region.

The Philippine Army's information officer Major Ace Galorio disclosed that members of the 61st Infantry Battalion encountered more or less nine insurgents believed to be under Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay on 28 October Barangay Umingan, Alimodian, Iloilo.

Galorio said that two rebels died during the encounter, as the government troops recovered several war materiels which include two mobile phones; 116 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition; one BAOFENG handheld radio; one butane burner; medicine kit; subversive documents, and personal belongings.

The next day, two separate encounters transpired in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

The first encounter transpired at around 3:30 p.m. at Barangay Planas, wherein members of CAFGU Active Auxiliary engaged 20 communist terrorists and during the night, troops of the 62nd Infantry Battalion encountered a group of rebels at Barangay Buenavista while conducting pursuit operation in response to the previous armed engagement.

Galorio said the firefight lasted for about five minutes and resulted to the death of one suspected rebel and the recovery of one 12-gauge shotgun; one Cal. .45 pistol; one hand grenade; two BAOFENG handheld radios; subversive documents and several personal belongings.

Meantime, members of the 46th Infantry Battalion encountered a group of rebels believed to be under Yakal Platon of Sub-regional Committee Browser at Barangay Gayundatu, San Jorge, Samar.
