DMW eyes command center

The Department of Migrant Workers hopes to open a digital command center that will serve as database of situational reports of overseas Filipino workers by the end of next month.

"The digital command center will be a repository of news on migrant workers internally for us to have the capacity to see even the most sensitive reports on OFWs, for us to understand and strategize properly," said DMW Secretary Susan Ople on Tuesday after accepting equipment donated by the International Organization for Migration.

Present during the turnover ceremony was IOM deputy director-general Amy Pope.

Ople said the command center will be beneficial in easily gathering "real-time" situational reports and experiences from OFWs that could serve as the basis for future policies to be crafted by the department.

DMW said those who will operate the facility will be given training.

Pope expressed appreciation for the DMW's efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of OFWs.

"We look forward to strengthening our work together to make a safe, humane, and orderly migration for all Filipinos," Pope said.
