Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos has tapped the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to help him develop a topographical review for evacuation centers in his home province in the wake of Super Typhoon Karding that wrecked most parts of Luzon.

According to the president's son, the evacuation centers would have solar charging and enough supplies as a temporary shelter for his displaced "kakailalian" (a northern term for a fellow citizen of a town or province) who had been affected by natural disasters.

"In light of Typhoon Karding, we are creating a master plan for evacuation centers in the 1st district of Ilocos Norte," Marcos wrote in a Facebook post uploaded on Wednesday.

"Thank you to the DENR for helping us identify the areas most prone from landslides and flooding," added the senior deputy majority leader.

The main island of Luzon, including heavily-populated Metro Manila, was placed under extreme emergency alert after "Karding" intensified into a super typhoon on Sunday.

The onslaught of "Karding" in Luzon — the strongest storm to hit the country this year– cost the Philippine agriculture sector some P2.2 billion in losses, according to the latest report of the Department of Agriculture.
