Manila fire victims receive cash aid

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto yesterday distributed financial assistance to all city residents who have been victims of fire
A total of 489 families received financial assistance in a simple ceremony at Manila City Hall.

Lacuna was also assisted by personnel from the Manila Department of Social Welfare headed by Re Fugoso.

The city officials urged the fire victims not to lose hope, as the city government assured them it will do everything legally possible to assist them.

Lacuna told residents to take extra precaution as she noted the high number of fire incidents that hit the city in the last few months.

"I hope you don't become victims of a calamity again. But if it does happen, expect us to be here to support you," she told residents.

On the other hand, Servo-Nieto told them to be strong and continue praying, as he thanked them for their support during the last election.

Most of the recipients, coming from the various districts of the city, were families whose homes burned in fire incidents from June until a few days ago. They were each given P10,000
Fugoso said the total distributed amount reached P4,896,000.

Some of the fire victims only received aid now because the election ban forbade the distribution of financial aid.
