DepEd queried on defunded SpEd

A teachers' group has called on the Department of Education to lay down its plan on the defunded special education program or SpEd for 2023.

The DepEd has clarified that it proposed to fund the SpEd but the suggested P532 million allocation was not included in the National Expenditure Program submitted by the government to Congress.

The Teachers' Dignity Coalition said that students of SpEd are really "special" and so they must not be left behind.

"We hope the internal adjustments of the DepEd would be enough to cover the needed funds for inclusivity. It's just alarming because it seems that those who are in dire need are left behind," the group said.
