Senator Imee Marcos on Sunday said that a one-on-one meeting between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and United States President Joe Biden is "unlikely to happen."

In a radio interview, Imee said that his younger brother might at least be able to meet Biden at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The president flew to the United States on Sunday morning with his wife, First Lady Liza Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez to participate in the high-level general debate with more than 150 other heads of state and government.

"Not sure because President Biden has a hectic schedule. We understand it because, in reality, they have neck-and-neck elections. It is elections season," Imee said.

"I think it's not yet confirmed, but I'm sure they will meet because they still have a reception there and everybody goes there, so they will still meet each other. However, the extended one-on-one has a slim chance," she added.

The lady senator assured the public that a Marcos-Biden bilateral meeting will happen soon, especially since it was only the first US trip of the Chief Executive.

"That's not a problem, and there are many other chances for that to happen. President Bongbong just started his presidency," she stressed.

Asked why she is not going with her brother to the UNGA, Imee, who chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said she had chosen not to since she will go to Washington later on.

"I will be 'holding the fort' here because I will go to the US after he goes back. Because I will follow up on what they were able to talk about at the UN. So we will be double tagging, back-to-back," she explained.
