Azkals veteran Stephan Schrock hopes to see younger Filipinos play earlier in the professional leagues to properly hone them in international tournaments.

In an interview with AFC.com, the 36-year-old Azkals Development Team captain said players starting out at around age 22 in the pros need to do a lot of catching up compared to those aged 16 to 18.

Shrock pointed out young players opt to join collegiate leagues such as the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

But he hopes concerned parties can strike a compromise for the sake of Philippine football's future.
