‘Lockdown gen’ secures job offers

As most graduates today face challenges in securing a job, leading employment platform Jobstreet and the Civil Service Commission tied up to launch an online career fair aimed at empowering fresh graduates who are part of the so-called lockdown generation.

In an online, JobStreet Philippines head of Marketing Kim Viray admitted that competition remains stiff for new graduates as they enter the workforce, as more Filipinos still look for jobs that fit their lifestyles and preference.

She said this was apart from the fact that there is a huge volume of returning experienced and even migrant workers who were stuck during the lockdowns since 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides this, Viray said jobseekers face multiple risks such as severe disruption in education and training, low earnings, limited employment prospects, and magnified job search constraints, all on top of the need for digital tools and devices among employees to secure job opportunities.

20,000 jobs available

To somehow avert the challenges, she said JobStreet by SEEK is encouraging job hunters to join the Government Online Career Fair 2022 happening on 14 to 23 September 2022, in line with their commitment to providing future-ready government jobs.

Over 20,000 slots both on the JobStreet platform and on the Government Online Career fair are up for grabs, comprising various roles.

Interested applicants can also explore other vacancies for Project Development Officer, Accountant, Auditor, Executive Assistant and Information Technology Officer, among others.

The Government Online Career Fair is celebrating the 122nd anniversary of civil service in the Philippines and will be joined by more than 120 agencies including the Department of Health, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Commission on Elections, Development Bank of the Philippines and the Energy Regulatory Commission.

"For two years since the pandemic, JobStreet and the Civil Service Commission have successfully helped Filipinos find government jobs through online channels. With this year's online career fair, we hope we'll be able to empower more candidates with future-ready opportunities," JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca said.

With many government jobs open for candidates, JobStreet underscores that this is an opportune time for candidates, including fresh graduates, to establish a steady career progression and networking opportunities while finding a sense of purpose through helping the nation. Furthermore, the job portal shares that many government job roles offer a work-life balance which is currently a top priority for most Filipino applicants.
