DILG lauds Malaysian national rescue

The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Wednesday has commended the Philippine National Police for the rescue of a Malaysian national at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Tuesday which also led to the arrest of the kidnapping suspects.

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos also attributed the successful operation to the hardworking PNP men and other law enforcement authorities that saved Lim Voon Pei from the hands of the suspects identified as Justin Alaraz and Malaysian national Chan Yong Howe said.

The PNP, in a statement, it has rescued a Malaysian woman who was held for ransom by a Chinese -Malaysian and the Filipino suspect.

Police reports disclosed that the victim arrived in Manila on Monday and was supposed to meet a certain Jerry whom she linked up with in a dating app but instead, the victim was fetched by a Chinese man who took her to Carmona, Cavite where she was detained in a house.

With the use of an internet chat application, the victim was able to send messages to her family asking for 26,000 Malaysian Ringgit (P300,000) ransom for her liberty and was also able to send descriptions of her captors and the vehicle used by the suspects.

"The successful arrest of the kidnapping suspect is a clear proof that your PNP is relentlessly performing its task of securing and protecting our countrymen and even foreigners that are victims of lawlessness in our country,'' Abalos said.
