Ancajas gets online fitness tips

Published on

Former world champion Jerwin Ancajas gets strength and conditioning tips from the fitness guru of the Philippine men's baseball, squash, water polo and soft tennis teams.

The decision to tap the expertise of Marc Bayang was made when the ex-International Boxing Federation super-flyweight titlist dropped by the Philippine Sports Commission main office early last month.

Ancajas wandered into the PSC's headquarters in search of individuals who can lend a hand in his quest to regain the IBF 115-lb belt that he had lost to Argentine Fernando Martinez last February in Las Vegas.

On 8 October in Carson, California, Ancajas gets the opportunity to get it back when he and Martinez face off anew at the Dignity Health Sports Park.

Bayang admits he only got to see and talk Ancajas on 4 August when the Filipino southpaw went to the PSC.

"We talked about how we were going to go about his (conditioning) training. But I am a part of the group chat and we talk about and update each other there," said Bayang, who heads the strength and conditioning program of the PSC.

Ancajas, 30, is scheduled to leave for Los Angeles tomorrow with head trainer Joven Jimenez.
