Pilmico, Gold Coin Group launch CSR in SEA

Pilmico and Gold Coin Group, the Aboitiz Group's food subsidiary, strengthens its commitment to giving back to the communities it serves through various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and China.

As Pilmico brings its quality products to the different regions in Asia, they are also taking the mission of Feeding Humanity to greater heights. Their various CSR initiatives previously held in the Philippines have now reached communities across Asia where Gold Coin is present.

"Pilmico has served as a partner for several communities from the many initiatives we have done in the Philippines. And now that we can finally do the same for Gold Coin, we are glad and excited to lend a helping hand. As the company continues to expand our reach across different regions in Asia, this means more opportunities for us to reach out to more communities," said Pilmico Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Ma. Katrina Bayog-Mercado.

Creating more agripreneurs with Pilmico Livelihood Kit

Pilmico lives out the Aboitiz Group's greater purpose of advancing business and communities through its flagship project Pilmico Livelihood Kit, where they provide livelihood opportunities to farmers and entrepreneurs.

Pilmico partnered with the Aboitiz Group's CSR arm, Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (AFI) for the Quail Eggs Livelihood Kit. The project aims to aid swine raisers from CARAGA, Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte who were greatly affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF). A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing event was held last July 19, 2022, at the City Veterinary Office of Cagayan De Oro.

City Veterinarian of Cagayan de Oro Dr. Perla Asis, DM expressed her gratitude for the Quail Eggs Livelihood Kit. "The City Veterinary Office appreciates the project of Pilmcio to distribute these livelihood kits to the beneficiaries that would help them earn additional income. This project will be a good opportunity for the beneficiaries to recover from the loss brought by the ASF," she said.

Aside from the Quail Eggs Livelihood Kit, Pilmico also partnered with AFI and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. Microfinance (RAFI-MFI) for "Padayon sa Pagbusay (Paddle Unceasingly)," a rehabilitation project for families affected by Typhoon Odette in Cebu and Bohol.

Pilmico distributes livelihood assistance including gilt packages, egg machine kits and bakery kits to families affected by Typhoon Odette in Cebu and Bohol.

Pilmico distributed gilt, egg machines, and bakery livelihood kits to 15 beneficiaries from Cebu and Bohol. The kits were complete with all the necessary equipment, ingredients and animal health products to start their own agribusinesses. The support also came with access to Pilmico's technical services to ensure their businesses' sustainability and profitability in the long run.

Advancing business and communities across Asia

Since Pilmico acquired Gold Coin Management Holdings Inc. in 2018, they have continuously strengthened their position in the market across Asia. As they move closer to more consumers in the region, this also means that more people can be reached by their CSR efforts.

Such initiatives include the recent beach clean-up event held last June 25, 2022 by the Gold Coin Malaysia team at Tanjung Purun beach in Labuan, Malaysia. The team advocates environmental awareness in preserving the local beaches and practicing responsible waste disposal.

Gold Coin Malaysia partnered with the area's local government unit, Perdabanan Labuan, to collect trash and install signboards around the area to remind beach-goers to be responsible for their waste.

In China, Children's Day is celebrated every 1st of June. To bring joy to children during this special day, team members of Gold Coin China donated sports equipment and school supplies to students of Qinzhou 38th Primary School. This initiative is Gold Coin's contribution to the government's "Children's Day Education Assistance" program.

Meanwhile, Gold Coin Brunei gives back to the community through Smarter Brunei Baca Gift Center (Smarter Brunei), a non-profit organization that takes care of children with autism. Last August 13, 2022, Gold Coin turned over essential medical kits and equipment needed by Smarter Brunei while its team members took part in repairing and organizing the center.

For Pilmico, the mission to Feed Humanity is not anymore confined only to the borders of the Philippines; rather, they aim to reach more people in Southeast Asia and China. As their CSR initiatives have started reaching other Asian regions, the Food Group hopes to continue advancing more business and communities while being guided by Aboitiz's core value of responsibility.
