Pinoys eye World 10-Ball final

Reigning US Open champion Carlo Biado suffered a stunning defeat but the Philippines went on to eliminate Poland, 3-1, in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Predator World Teams 10-ball championship in Klagenfurt, Austria Saturday.

Rubilen Amit and Johann Chua accounted for the three victories.

Biado bowed to Wojciech Szewcyzk, 4-2, a defeat avenged by Chua who whitewashed the Polish master, 4-0.

Amit outclassed Oliwia Zalewska, 4-1, and teamed up with Biado to blank Zaleswska and Tomasz Kaplan, 4-0, in mixed doubles.

The victory advanced the Filipinos into the semifinals against Germany which trounced Spain, 3-1.

Germany scored through Pia Filler who defeated Amalia Matas, 4-2; Thorsten Hohmann who beat Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, 4-2; and Joshua Filler who shut out Ruiz, 4-0.

The other semifinal match pits Great Britain against Chinese-Taipei.

In the Women's 10-Ball Championship, Chezka Centeno, the last Filipino standing, bowed out in the quarterfinals after losing to Kelly Fisher of Great Britain, 9-6.

Centeno earlier ousted Indonesian Angeline Ticoalu, 9-6, in the Round of 16.

Amit was eliminated early by Monika Zabek, 7-3.

The final is set Sunday.
