Philippine National Police chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. has ordered 240 extra police personnel to be deployed within Metro Manila as deterrence to criminals expected to heighten their activities during the "ber" months.

The National Capital Police Region Office has identified places of deployment for the battalion of extra police officers from Camp Crame.

Metro Manila cop chief P/Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo thanked Azurin for allocating the augmentation force which was turned over Friday night at the Double Dragon complex in Pasay City.

Increasing police visibility entails assigning more cops on foot, motorcycle and car patrols.

Estomo said that many people go out during the "ber" months as the Philippines has the longest Christmas season in the world.

Criminals have been known through the years to take advantage of people congregating at shopping centers, among other public spaces.

The Southern Police District, meanwhile, said it has 368 personnel assigned to safeguard the public doing three, eight-hour shifts per day.
