Locsin named UK envoy

Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro "Teddy Boy" Locsin Jr. has been named as the country's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Malacañang announced Sunday.

Locsin's appointment was confirmed by Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles.

"We confirm the appointment of Teodoro Lopez Locsin Jr. as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland," Cruz-Angeles said in a press statement.

Likewise, Locsin will have concurrent jurisdiction over Ireland, Isle of Man, Bailiwick of Jersey, and Bailiwick of Guernsey, according to his appointment paper dated 30 August.

He will also have the salary and emoluments of a Chief of Mission, Class I.

Prior to his appointment, Locsin served as the Foreign Affairs Secretary under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

He served as speechwriter and press secretary of former President Corazon Aquino, who succeeded Marcos Jr.'s father and namesake Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Locsin was elected as Makati representative for three consecutive terms from 2001 to 2010.
