All set for Davao Eaglemasters

The 12th Davao Eaglemasters, the biggest team tournament in the South, will return on 22 September with more than 700 players taking part in two golf courses in Davao City — the Rancho Palos Verdes and South Pacific Golf.

Due to the huge volume of participants, organizers have spread the two-round event into four days.

Similar to the Fil-Am Invitational held annually in Baguio City, the Davao Eaglemasters is divided into five divisions: Championship, Flight A, Flight B, Flight C, and Senior.

The first four categories will be played under the Stableford scoring format while the Senior will use the Molave scoring system.

Each team is allowed to field five players but only the best four scores will count, according to lead organizer Randy Cadiogan.

Trophies will also be awarded to top individual players based on handicaps.

The annual event was interrupted for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2019, Apollo Air, led by individual champion Ronel Tagaan and runner-up Ely Bisera, won the championship division, beating Manila-based Team IMG by 27 points.

Apollo Air, now known as SMNI, will defend its title against four squads that include Manila Southwoods-based Golden Boys composed of Junjun Plana, Teody Pascual, Joseph Tambunting, Rusty Bayani, and Ricky Libago.

The tournament also drew one team from Japan and Los Angeles, three from Florida, and four from Melbourne.
