Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William Ramirez will make his own initiative to drum up the country’s hosting and preparation for the 30th Southeast Asian Games if national sports associations will continue taking their sweet time. Citing lack of urgency by the parties involved, Ramirez said he will wait a week or two and if nothing happens, the PSC will draft its own training program for the prestigious biennial meet set from 30 November to 15 December. “We will draft the activities for the SEA Games soon. Give me one week or two weeks, because I have my own boss in President (Rodrigo) Duterte,” said Ramirez on Friday after their alignment meeting with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the NSA. “I’m hoping for a meeting in the next few days. If nothing happens, we will draft our own activities,” he added. While other countries are shifting their preparations for the biennial meet to high gear, Ramirez admitted the NSA are still in the process of determining the number of athletes that will compete in the 11-nation meet. “Chairman Ramirez called a meeting with CDM (chief of mission) Monsour del Rosario to start creating a SEA Games Task Force to set the criteria for the selection,” said PSC deputy executive director Guillermo Iroy. Give me one week or two weeks. Because I have my own boss in President (Rodrigo) Dutert. “We know there are 56 sports in the SEA Games, but the CDM did not know the specific number of athletes per sports. We had initial discussions about that,” he added. Ramirez said they need to determine the number of delegates so that they can provide the needed assistance for the NSA like financing their training, equipment needed, venues, nutrition among others. “We will take the initiative because if we fail here, the blame will be on us,” said Ramirez. “You (in the media) have to shake us up, the PSC, POC and Phisgoc.”
