TikTok regulars have most probably heard of Ricky Montgomery, whose two songs, “Mr. Loverman” and “Line Without a Hook,” are favorites on the video-sharing platform.
‘Mr. Loverman” is a gentle track that builds up to a rousing, sing-along chorus, while “Line Without a Hook” is an upbeat, power-pop tune with a coming-of-age narrative.
Both songs were released in 2016 as part of the album Montgomery Ricky. But it wasn’t until recently that they turned into big hits.
“Line Without a Hook” made Montgomery a TikTok star with over one million followers.
Filipinos were quick to use the songs on their videos, creating their own storylines. It marked a turning point for Montgomery, who nearly quit being a musician just before his songs went viral.
He’s currently on a tour across the United States and has recently released an EP, It’s 2016 Somewhere.
The album expressed his feelings about the whirlwind journey of his career and life in general.
Aside from the acoustic versions of “Mr. Loverman” and “I Don’t Love You Anymore,” the EP goes thrrough key moments in his life, including heartbreak from a romantic relationship and grief over his father’s death.
