Vice presidential aspirant and Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Monday clarified that Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon did not talk to him to convince him to drop his vice presidential bid.

“Senator Franklin Drilon will never make me back out from the race. We get to talk every now and then, I know him better than that. He knows me better than that,” Sotto said in a press conference.

The clarification was made after Drilon admitted on Sunday that he talked to Sotto for possible unification talks after his running mate’s party — Partido Reporma — shifted its support to the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo.

Sotto’s running mate is presidential candidate and Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

He said that despite their differences in terms of political party,  he believes that Drilon will not disrespect him by convincing him to drop his electoral bid for the second-highest government position.

The lawmaker also reiterated that Tarlac Governor Susan Yap’s endorsement of Bongbong Marcos and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio was on her own and does not represent the party.

Yap is the leader and member of the National People’s Council (NPC) in the province, which Sotto leads.

“What Governor Susan Yap said was her own [decision]. She never said that the whole NPC is backing her candidates contrary to the claims of a publication” he said.

“The endorsement of an official does not mean that it reflects the decision of his or her other family members,” he added.

Sotto also said that he does not have any plans to make Yap change her mind and endorse their tandem instead.

Lacson echoed the same statement, emphasizing their efforts to woo voters by conducting town hall meetings.

The tandem is barnstorming the Central Luzon, they first had a town hall meeting in Tarlac, which is a known bailiwick of the Aquino clan.

The province is also a known vote-rich province with over 800,000 registered voters.

In the afternoon, the tandem conducted a town hall meeting with different sectors in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
