In a bid to secure the Southern vote, pre-election survey frontrunners Bongbong Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio returned to Mindanao less than two weeks before the 9 May elections.

The duo, who branded themselves “UniTeam,” resumes the Mindanao leg of their campaign Tuesday, 26 April, barnstorming the northern part of Mindanao this time.

Bongbong first set his foot on the country’s southernmost island to campaign for himself as he vies for the top job during the last week of March.

In the five-day trip, Bongbong held several sorties from South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, Davao de Oro, Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon. Sara, meanwhile, campaigned in Luzon during this period.

Now, their target is Cagayan de Oro, the capital city of Misamis Oriental and home to more than one million registered voters.

The UniTeam will stage a rally at the Pelaez Sports Center, bringing with them their senatorial candidates and their appeal for “unity.”

No information was available on whether the tandem will be joined by local officials in their sortie here.

Sara, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, who is the first Mindanaoan Chief Executive, earlier claimed that her presidential running mate is backed by 70 to 80 percent of voters in Mindanao.

BBM bares platforms in taped interview

Bongbong is also set to appear in a sit-down interview with veteran journalist Ruth Cabal of CNN Philippines on Tuesday.

The program “In Private” seeks to get “up close and personal” conversations with the Palace hopefuls.

In a sneak preview of the taped interview, the former senator discussed his platforms, particularly addressing the prices of basic commodities, job generation, health, agriculture, and tourism.

Bongbong made the appearance on CNN Philippines days after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) postponed the presidential debates with nine other presidential candidates.

A day prior to his Mindanao visit, Bongbong and Sara led a grand rally in Arca South, Taguig City.

Bongbong’s wife, lawyer Liza Araneta-Marcos, who rarely makes a public appearance, was present at the event while his youngest son Vincent gave a ukulele performance to entertain the crowd.

In his speech, Bongbong equated the cheers of the crowd to their approval of his vision of unity for the country.

“It is very important that you are here to show your support to the Marcos-Duterte tandem, and our appeal for unity,” he said.

For her part, Sara reiterated that she will serve the country based on the teachings of her parents to treat every Filipino equally.

“As a public servant, I always embody the teachings of my parents, that everyone is equal. No one is poor, no one is rich, we are all Filipinos,” she said.
