BBM-Sara tandem not yet celebrating despite huge pre-poll lead

Despite their consistent lead in pre-election surveys and huge crowds in their rallies, presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos and running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio insist that there is no reason to celebrate not unless they are already proclaimed as winners of the 9 May polls .

Sara told reporters, in an ambush interview in Mexico, Pampanga late Monday night that opinion polls are not enough to convince them of their lead in the race.

“Confidence? We don’t have that because we are always running scared. That should be our mindset. We do not have an assurance of our win unless we are already proclaimed,” the President’s daughter said in Filipino.

The vice-presidential frontrunner said they do not let the poll results influence their campaign and would continue to pursue the support of voters until the last day of the campaign period.

“Our campaign is going well. We will continue doing various activities to campaign and reach more people in different parts of the country,” Sara said.

“We will not stop preparing for the elections until the day of the counting of the votes,” she added.

Most reputable survey firms have indicated that Bongbong and Sara continue to have double-digit leads over their rivals as elections draw near.

In Pulse Asia’s February survey, Sara received a voter preference of 53 percent, while Bongbong maintained his score at 60 percent.

Former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, chairman emeritus of Lakas-CMD, invited Sara to a campaign rally in Pampanga the night before her 75th birthday.

Here, the former president endorsed the Bongbong-Sara tandem and asked her constituents to give a “landslide victory” for the two to express, she said, the province’s gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte.

When asked why Bongbong was unable to join her in the event, Sara replied: “Today is supposedly a day to rest, but an invitation came for GMA’s birthday.”

Sara said the Pineda clan — Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda and Vice Governor Lilia Pineda — is helping her to seek the support of the province that has more than 1.5 million registered voters, but it has yet to make a categorical statement endorsing the UniTeam.

Sara also thanked again her father for endorsing her but disclosed that she is not urging the President to endorse Bongbong.
