Barangay Ginebra got the momentum it wanted as it pulled off a 95-86 win over NLEX in Game 1 of the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday night.
The Kings drew a fiery fourth quarter run to create enough cushion for the all-important win and set the tone on their best-of-five battle against the Road Warriors.
Tied at 78-all, the crew of Justin Brownlee, LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson connived for nine unanswered points to pull away, while keeping NLEX scoreless for almost seven minutes.
Brownlee led the way with a near triple-double of 27 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, while LA Tenorio churned out 19 markers, six boards and six dimes to lead three other locals in double digits.
Scottie Thompson continued his impressive showing with 15 markers, while Christian Standhardinger and Arvin Tolentino combined for 21 points.
Ginebra’s win spoiled NLEX import Cameron Clark’s 30-point performance.
The Kings will gun for a 2-0 advantage when they battle the Road Warriors on Friday.
