It might be too early for the Philippines to downgrade to Alert Level 0 even amid the continuous decline in the country’s coronavirus cases, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said on Saturday.
In a press briefing in Angeles City, Pampanga, Sotto reiterated the call of his running mate Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson for the imposition of “science-based” and “data-driven” policies in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It might be too early to go to Alert 0. Alert 1 lang. Medyo bantayan muna,” Sotto told reporters. “Sabi nga Sen. Lacson, data-driven, Science-based dapat ganun muna.”
The Philippines’ pandemic task force placed the National Capital Region and 38 other areas under Alert Level 1 —the most relaxed among the five-tier restrictions classification — in late February following the continuous improvement in the health situation in the country.
“Let’s always follow the Science. Kumunsulta sila sa Science kung pwede na mag-Alert level 0 para sa pag-open up natin ng economy,” said Lacson. “Pero kung sila sila nagsasabi eh teka muna. Ang hirap. Sabi nga namin lagi walang trade-off between health and economy.”
