Vice presidential aspirant Sara Duterte on Friday vowed to support Filipino artists as she recognized their role in the promotion and preservation of the nation’s history, arts, and culture.
”Pagkatapos po, kung mananalo, magta-trabaho po lahat sa ating bayan, kasama na po ang partnership natin with artists,” Duterte said during her online program “Sana All for You (SA4U)” that guested theater music icons Robert Seña and Isay Alvarez dubbed as the “power couple”.
“Hindi lang po for entertainment [ang sining] ‘yan. That is a very important part of the history, of our people, and our country, dahil parte na po yan ng kultura natin,” she added.
Seña and Alvarez, who expressed support for Duterte in the program’s ‘Artists for Sara’ segment, sang Butch Monserrat’s “Umagang Kay Ganda” composition – a piece that Mayor Sara described as a “feel good” song, and happens to be the theme song of Uniteam’s presidential bet, Bong Bong Marcos.
“Lagi po naming kinakanta ‘to lalo na kapag we want to inspire people. Itong kantang ito talaga – ang lyrics ay napakaganda at sana’y magustuhan ninyo,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez appealed for Duterte not to neglect local artists in the Philippines, claiming that art is “part of the culture and an extension of people’s love for nation.”
“We truly believe na ang sining po ay parte po kultura natin. Kaya sa pagpapalawig po ng pagmamahal natin sa ating bansa, hopefully we can be part ng pagsusulong ng ating sining,” Alvarez said.
The ‘Artists for Sara’ segment of SA4U online show features different talents and local artists to thank them for the efforts extended to Mayor Sara and the rest of the Uniteam.
