RYZA Cenon was among the people who offered to help Narding Floro who was jailed for stealing mangoes.

Like many people, Ryza Cenon was annoyed and saddened over the arrest and detention in Pangasinan of an 80-year-old man, Narding Floro, for allegedly stealing from his neighbor 10 kilos of mangoes — which he said came from the tree he himself planted.

Cenon, Starstruck Season 2’s Ultimate Female Survivor in 2004, offered to pay the P6,000 bail to get Floro out of jail, but failed to do so since no one from the Asingan Police station answered her handler’s call.

The complainant could have given consideration to Floro who said that, as far as he knew, he planted the mango tree, Cenon told pep.ph, adding that an old man ended up in jail when the issue could’ve been settled amicably.

Floro offered to pay for the mangoes but his neighbor refused and instead called the police.

Meanwhile, netizens posted their comments on the country’s justice system — how unfair it is to arrest poor people over minor problems while letting politicians guilty of plunder and tax evasion go scot-free.

Cenon pledged to continue helping Floro even after he is set free. She said her compassion for the elderly stems from fondness for her grandparents.

At press time, donations to Floro have amounted to P10,000. Asingan police chief Police Major Napoleon Eleccion said the donations will be turned over to Floro.
