The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recently lauded 17 local government units (LGU) in the National Capital Region for passing ordinances on restricting unvaccinated individuals within their jurisdictions.
This, as DILG Secretary Eduardo Año also called on the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) and the Regional Inter-Agency Task Forces (RIATF) in encouraging LGU in the provinces to follow suit.
“Many thanks to the Metro Manila Mayors and City Councils for your immediate action and response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s call and the call of opportunity in this time of pandemic. This is also for the benefit of everyone, whether vaccinated or not, and so that the Covid-19 cases in our country do not swell,” Año said.
The LPP — led by Marinduque Governor Presbiterio Velasco — earlier called on his member-provinces to pass similar ordinances in their respective provinces as a means to increase the vaccination coverage and protect the unvaccinated.
“Together with the LPP and the RIATF, we also call on LGU outside Metro Manila to act as well and pass ordinances like this. Let us all move in one pace so that we can collectively surmount the threat of Omicron,” Velasco said.
