The pilot run of the government’s plan to tap major pharmacies, drugstores and private clinics as Covid-19 booster shots vaccinators is set to start with seven locations in Metro Manila.

National Task Force Against Covid-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon said the program dubbed as “Resbakuna sa mga Botika” will start on 20 to 21 January.

“This will be fast, Mr. President. After its launching, we will immediately do the rollout for about a week, then we will expand in other cities all over the country — Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and other drugstores,” Dizon said during President Rodrigo Duterte’s Talk to the People aired Tuesday morning.

Dizon said seven big pharmacies, drugstores and private clinics have initially agreed to help the country’s vaccination rollout such as Mercury Drug in Manila, Southstar Drug in Marikina City, Watsons in Pasig City, and Generika Drugstore in Taguig City.

Also included in the pilot run of Resbakuna sa mga Botika are The Generics Pharmacy in Parañaque City, Qualimed Clinic in Makati City, and Healthway in Manila.

In the same public briefing, Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said that the rollout of booster shots via the private sector will be concentrated in the National Capital Region and 10 other key cities with more than 70 percent vaccination coverage.

Galvez added that mega vaccination sites like Nayong Pilipino and shopping malls will also be dedicated to Covid-19 booster shots administration.

He noted that the expansion of vaccination sites via pharmacies, drugstores and private clinics is to reach and vaccinate the A4 population or economic frontliners, as well as to maintain the high and continued level of protection of the target areas.

The official admitted that the rollout of booster shots in the country remained slow despite its expansion to other eligible populations.

Since the government started the rollout of booster shots in November, only an average of 267,900 booster shots are administered in the country per day.

“In our analysis, this is low because vaccinations for children were launched almost at the same time. There are now over eight million vaccinated children,” he noted.

Based on the latest data from the National Covid-19 Vaccination Dashboard, the country has administered a total of 119,746,232 doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

Of the administered vaccines, 55,583,592 are fully vaccinated individuals, 59,031,437 are first dose, and 5,131,203 are booster doses.
