Phl logs 492 cases of Omicron variant

The Philippines reported 492 new cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 535, the Department of Health (DoH) said Wednesday.

Based on the latest samples sequenced report of the Philippine Genome Center, the newly-detected cases of Omicron variant were composed of 332 local cases and 160 Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF).

Of the 332 local cases, the indicated addresses were from the National Capital Region with 227 cases, CALABARZON with 76 cases, Central Luzon with 11 cases, and Central Visayas with five cases.

There were also two Omicron variant cases each found in Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Cordillera Administrative Region, and one case each from Ilocos Region, MIMAROPA, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The DoH said that based on the case line list, three cases are still active, two cases have died, 20 cases are still being verified, while 467 cases have been tagged as recovered.
