After warning that Pasig City’s healthcare sector is already “overwhelmed,” Mayor Vico Sotto has announced he has gone under quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19.

“Hi everyone, bad news, I’ve tested positive for Covid-19. [I] have a sore throat, fever, and body aches, but please don’t worry!” Sotto said in a social media post.

“I’ll continue to work remotely while in isolation for the next seven days,” he said.

Sotto’s longtime driver died last year due to complications from the disease.

The mayor urged his constituents to be extra careful and to always follow the minimum health protocols to avoid getting infected with the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

“The spread of the Omicron is really strong — according to some experts — all of us will be exposed to this variant. So, we must be always careful, strengthen our immune system, and be responsible. If you have symptoms, isolate immediately and don’t go outside your house,” the mayor said.
