ZAMBOANGA CITY–Police in Basilan province recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) along the road of a heavily populated village in Lamitan City, 16 January.

The IED was planted in front of the residence of a certain Hja Arsima S. Gappar.

The operatives were able to source information that the IED was intended for a certain Ujud Ujurun J. Gappal, a resident of Akbar town, where he is a mayoralty candidate.

Gappar’s house is two houses far from Gappal, just so, the police said, to politically harass or extort from the politician.
