A total of 33 persons were arrested and 20 firearms and 56 other deadly weapons were seized in various Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported Sunday.
The arrests and weapons seizure covered the period 9 January, when the Comelec gun ban started, to 14 January with a total 1,215 operations conducted by various police units in Metro Manila.
“The data reveals flagrant disregard of existing policies since we have cascaded the implementation of gun ban long before we launched this operation,” NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao said.
“Yet, it is not yet too late for others to heed our call and refrain from committing violations of the law especially as we approach the forthcoming national and local elections 2022,” he added.
During the operations, 329 unvaccinated individuals were also accosted and warned for going against government orders that they should stay at home unless they are availing of essential goods or services.
The Comelec gun ban will be in effect until 8 June 2022.
