Cop kills wife, child, self in domestic quarrel

A woman and her 3-year-old son died after being shot by her policeman husband in Virac, Catanduanes, early Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Pat. Jaymar Malasa, of the Provincial Mobile Force Company, also died when he shot himself after the incident, according to a report from the Catanduanes provincial police.

His wife Joy died on the spot and his son was brought to the hospital, but was declared dead by doctors.

The incident occurred at the Malasas’ home in Brgy. Hawan Ilaya, past 1 a.m.

Initial investigation indicated that Jaymar, 25, had just come home from a drinking spree when he and his wife figured in a heated argument.

Local probers are looking into information that jealousy triggered the couple’s argument, the provincial police said.

Amid the quarrel, Jaymar pulled out a gun and shot his 28-year-old wife to the back of the head.

Joy was then carrying their son, who also got hit on the head when the bullet passed through her.

Jaymar then shot himself using his .9mm service firearm, police said.

Members of the Virac Police and Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed to the scene after learning the incident, and found the Malasas lying bloodied.

The boy was still conscious at the time and brought to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

Members of the Provincial Forensic Unit have taken custody of Jaymar’s gun and the two .9mm cartridges found at the scene, and are set to subject these to ballistics tests.
