Valorant mulls changes in character roles

Valorant developers are mulling the possibility of spicing things up with future characters and even the current crop of agents and their roles in the popular team-based first-person shooter.

Valorant character producer John Goscicki said they are currently finishing ways to clearly define the characters to give players a better gaming experience.

Currently, the agents are divided into four categories; Duelist, Initiators, Controllers, and Sentinels.

“A lot of those categories are broad terms and ways to think about the rules and what those characters, like strengths and weakness profiles should be and could be,” Goscicki said.

“We have constantly been trying to push the boundaries of those and you’ve seen that recently, not only with Neon but with Chamber.”

He said they have to adapt their characters to the changing times.

“I think as the game evolves and continues to grow, we will probably be going back to a lot of those characters sharpening their identities towards different outputs of those roles or evolving those roles,” he said.
