At least four inmates were seriously injured when rival gangs engaged in a riot in the Caloocan City Jail on Monday afternoon, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said.
Supt. Xavier Solda, BJMP spokesperson, said the ruckus started around 4 p.m.
“After it was pacified, four persons deprived of liberty were seriously injured,” Solda said in a statement.
Radio reports said members of the Sputnik and Commando gangs engaged in the brawl, and two were injured on each side.
Special Tactics and Response Team of the BJMP National Capital Region and police from the PNP Northern Police District immediately proceeded to the area, Solda said.
Dir. Allan Iral, BJMP chief, has ordered an investigation into the incident, he said.
The Caloocan City Jail will remain on heightened alert status and additional personnel were already deployed to the facility, Solda added.
