What we wish for (Last of two parts)

Published

on

A week before Christmas, just as Covid-19 was virtually under control in the Philippines, a ferocious typhoon named “Odette” slammed and ravaged many parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

While Filipinos in affected areas pick up the pieces of their shattered lives, the wishes of performing artists and their colleagues reflect what truly matter as the world rings in a New Year.

I wish the country heals from the very divisive nature that was ambushed upon us in 2016, and for Filipinos to discern what is real and what is not. I also want to get back to putting myself out there and supporting more of my friends when they have more live gigs.

My New Year’s wishes for the country are for Covid-19 to end and for everyone to be with their loved ones again —
but without the paranoia over the virus. My wish for myself is to be more successful in my work.

I wish the world will be safer, if not totally free from the virus. I wish that our children would be able to again experience how it is to live freely, play with their friends and hug everybody.

My only wish for the country and the Filipino people is for us to recover and be stronger, especially to all my kababayan in Bohol affected by Typhoon “Odette.” I pray for everyone to get over this crisis and start anew in 2022.

Since the election is coming, I wish for the country to have a leader who truly cares and can put our needs first before anything else. For myself naman, good health and strength to solve whatever problems will crop up in 2022.

At para naman sa akin, I want to have more drive and be more focused in what I do. I hope it will be a better year for all of us.

Hopefully, next year, we can go back to normal. But that will only happen if the country stops supporting corrupt politicians. I also wish that we end the culture of ‘hate’ after the elections — dapat ‘pagmamahal’ naman ang manaig sa susunod na administrasyon.

The year 2022 brings me new hope. After two years of uncertainty, fear, pain and heartbreak from the pandemic, somehow, I see light at the end of the tunnel. People all over the world have come together to find solutions and reach out to those who need help. The fight isn’t over yet, but I know we will win this. I wish the music industry bounces back. We can’t wait to perform again. We all deserve better days.

I wish every Filipino would be more understanding, more patient and more appreciative of each other. We have gone through very trying times these past two years, and the only way to get through the next set of challenges is to be together. Through good times and bad, through easy times and hard times, all we’ve got is each other. So, may we all show gratitude, appreciation, and love for each other — not only during the Yuletide season, but all year round as well.

For the world, I wish the pandemic disappears, or at least gets controlled. Since this can only come with global herd immunity, I pray that the anti-vaxxers think not only of themselves but of everyone else.

I wish that vaccination continues in all LGU, with no corruption and no favoritism. This means we have to elect the right people — from top to bottom, from Malacañang, the Senate, the House of Representatives to the governors, mayors and heads of barangays, barangay aides included.

For film and television, I wish not only for continuing international recognition of Filipino filmmakers, but also for the resurgence of the local market.

I wish for the restoration of the ABS-CBN franchise, since its cancellation didn’t only affect the network’s TV and radio programs, or the films produced by its sister companies, but greatly damaged the advertising industry, too.

For me and my family, and all of my friends, continuing good health and worthwhile projects.

Every year, ang wish ko lang ay maging better version of myself — maging mas mabuting nanay, anak, partner, kaibigan, citizen at singer. Ang wish ko for the country ay sana manalo si Leni.

I wish that God would send down mighty angels to ply off, one by one, the fat, greedy fingers of the plunderers who have a death grip on the Philippines. Then the Holy Spirit whooshes the country clean of the decaying, toxic atmosphere that has poisoned many people to believe in the lies of the usual suspects. And finally let Leni/Kiko lead to bring about the much-needed detoxification and healing and rebuilding of the nation.
