Big Night! won big at the 47th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), taking home six awards including Best Picture, Best Director (Jun Lana), Best Actor (Christian Bables), Best Supporting Actor (John Arcilla), Best Cinematography and Best Musical Score.
A humorous take on the Philippines’ drug war, Big Night! is about Dharna, a beautician who learns his name is on the drug list that will be turned over to the police the next day.
But Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (Whether the Weather is Fine), about a family fleeing their town after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” strikes, won seven: Second Best Picture, Best Actress (Charo Santos-Concio), Best Supporting Actress (Rans Rifol) MMFF Jury Prize (Daniel Padilla), Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects and Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award.
It is hoped that the awards night can draw more people to watch the entries in cinemas.
