An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said that the poll body has no plans of expanding the list of those who will be exempted from the gun ban.
In a virtual press briefing, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said that the Comelec Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns might be stricter on granting gun ban exemptions.
“There is no plan to expand the coverage on the grant of exemptions. If anything, they might be stricter,” Jimenez said.
This comes after Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Executive Director, Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco requested the Department of the Interior and Local Government to designate a media security focal person at the provincial and city levels through the Philippine National Police.
The National Press Club of the Philippines supported the move of the PTFoMS.
