Chie Filomeno sounded serious, saying she grew up wanting to be a pinup girl.
On Wednesday, 1 December, the 24-year-old social media personality and former Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemate was introduced as Ginebra San Miguel’s 2022 Calendar Girl in a media conference presided over by TV host and fitness trainer Vince Velasco.
And then she burst into laughter each time Velasco drooled over her straight, intelligent answers to questions thrown by the media.
Curiously, the calendar’s six layouts presented Filomeno in roles she herself plays in real life: as a health and fitness enthusiast, race car driver, roller-skater, fashion trendsetter, surfer, beach lover.
“To be part of the Ginebra San Miguel family is such a big fulfillment for me. This is a dream come true. I am really happy and grateful to be part of the brand’s legacy,” she said.
Filomeno is out to disprove the notion of a calendar girl as just about being sexy and having a pretty face. “She is definitely beyond that. She is about being strong. She is about feeling and looking good, not just on the outside, but also on the inside. I know I am more than just a pretty face. I am more than my mistakes. I know I still have a lot to prove, not to other people, but to myself. My competition is myself and not anyone else,” she pointed out.
Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) national sales and marketing manager Allan Mercado said: “Chie Filomeno is a modern Filipino woman who is passionate about her work as a model, vlogger, youth influencer and actor. We chose her because she embodies the attributes that our products stand for – matapang, ganado and having a ‘never-say-die’ attitude.”
Filomeno admitted she’s a big fan of Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio and takes the basketball team’s famous mantra to heart: “My instinct has always been never-say-die. That’s my top-of-mind. Never say die in everything. What if you are an inch closer to success and then you give up? Sayang lahat ng pinagtrabahuhan mo. All the blood, sweat, and tears. Hanggang sa huling patak, dapat may bagong tapang. ’Yun din ang reminder sa akin lagi ng parents ko.”
With a combined six million followers on TikTok, Instagram and Twitter, Filomeno knows she can put her influence to good use.
“I use it in a positive way, to inspire people, because that is what we all need right now,” she said. “We should use our influence to inspire and give hope. That has been my goal.”
Filomeno earned the admiration of netizens recently when she helped out a group of jeepney drivers who were begging for alms along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City. She made a public appeal through her social media accounts.
The 2022 Ginebra San Miguel calendar features a QR code that consumers can scan using their smartphones to see Filomeno come to life with behind-the-scenes videos of her calendar girl photoshoots and a special message to her fans and followers.
Filomeno joins Sue Ramirez for GSM Blue, Albert Nicolas and Matteo Guidicelli for Primera Light Brandy on GSMI’s roster of brand ambassadors.
The Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl has become a tradition in GSMI. Since its inception in 1988, beauty queens, actors and models who have made their mark in their respective fields have graced it.
