A member of the ISIS-inspired Dawlah Islamiya was killed when government forces clashed with the Islamic militant group in Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao, the military reported Thursday.
Killed was a certain “Adsam,” son of Dawlah Islamiya sub-leader Hassan Indal, according to reports from the Armed Forces’ Western Mindanao Command and Army 6th Infantry Division.
Members of the 6th Infantry Battalion clashed with Dawlah Islamiya members in Sitio Ulangkaya, Brgy. Ganta, on Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Charlie Banaag, 6th Infantry Battalion commander, said troops went to the area after residents reported the presence of armed men who were extorting supplies from their community.
A 5-minute firefight ensued, then the militants withdrew to different directions, leaving Adsam’s body, he said.
Also found in the area were a caliber-5.56mm rifle, bandoleer, 189 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines, several other war materiel, and documents.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, commander of the AFP’s Joint Task Force Central and the 6th ID, commended the troops and called on them to continue working with other law enforcement agencies and residents to eliminate criminals and extremists.
“We will utilize all available assets to crush the criminals and return the peace to its people. We will not let our guards down,” he added.
