2 dead, 1 hurt in Batangas shootings



Two men died and another was seriously injured in separate shooting incidents in Batangas, police reported.

One Randy dela Pena, a construction worker, died after being shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Mataas na Kahoy town, according to a report from the Batangas provincial police.

Dela Pena was chatting with friends outside his home in Brgy. Bayorbor around 1:10 p.m. Monday, when two men on a motorcycle stopped near him, shot him twice to the head, and quickly escaped, the report said.

Hours later, around 6:20 p.m., one Mario Cielo Moraleja, 50, was also shot dead outside his home in Brgy. San Isidro Norte, Santo Tomas City.

He was speaking to someone on the phone when an unidentified man approached and shot him to the different parts of the body. The gunman first fled on foot, then rode a motorcycle towards Brgy. Sta. Maria, police said.

Around 8:40 p.m., one Angelo Lance Competente, 25, was shot near his home in Brgy. Timbain, Calaca.

Competente was heading home, driving a tricycle with his brother onboard, when a man standing on a dark portion of the road suddenly shot him several times to the body.

He was brought to a hospital in Lemery and is undergoing treatment, police said.

Investigators are still trying to identify the assailant, who is said to have worn a blue jacket, black jogging pants, and facemask, and fled on foot after the incident.
